Dating fender amps chassis
Just as the other Fender amps the Twin needs to operate in its sweet spot up to sound sweet.
The NOS Blues Junior is a current production, lacquered tweed amp with a Jensen reissue C12N speaker. There’s nothing limited about the edition; they built a bunch and when they ran out, they built another bunch.
Other Variants The Blues Junior chassis has also been used in the Two-Tone, a large amp with a 10-inch and a 12-inch speaker.
The Texas Red model uses the Celestion Vintage 30 speaker.
The V30 is known for its strong midrange and is well suited for classic rock/lead guitar.
The cream-colored board is laid out entirely differently (and better) than the green board. But the old ones sound darker, while the new ones are brighter, with more emphasis on treble tones.
The chassis can also be found in the weird, plastic-cased Deco-Tone and in some Custom Shop amps with exotic wood cases such as bubinga.
All green boards and all black Tolex BJrs use the Fender Special Design, which is built by Eminence and is equivalent to the Eminence Legend 125. The Twin Reverb is the king of Fender blackface amps.Where the other Fender amps break up at around 4 on the volume knob, the Twin stays clean up to almost 6 and will hold up against heavy drummers and bass players with clean notes sharp as a knife edge. It’s a little weak in the bass and the highs are a bit more muted than the other speakers.Summary “If an alien came to earth and wanted to hear an American guitar sound, I’d play him my Twin with a set of Jensens”. Having two pairs of 6L6, the popular and traditional two-channel AB763 circuit design, a diode rectifier and enormous transformers (power & output), it offers tons of clean headroom and volume for unmiked gigs and really big stages. You need to have your expectations set correctly to be able to appreciate the evil Twin. The big transformers and speakers makes this amp weigh around 40kgs, a burden too big for many gigging players who cannot (yet) afford a crew of roadies. If you want tube amp breakup and smoking tones with no pedals you will experience many fights with your band mates and club owners.
